Vickie CaseyMinneapolis Star-TribuneJanuary 2000 Counter-Revolution is the song that starts off this album and man, is it catchy. These are all submissions from talented beat makers from all over the world. Reviews for Counter-Revolution: The band's debut, 'Counter Revolution,' is a pleasant album filled with retrofitted, hummable pop-rock. Roy Ayers is, without question a legend, in his own time. Create a beat sampling the great vibraphonist Roy Ayers. But “Feeling good” also features the very commercial singalong track like “Knock Knock”. This was certainly at the height of Ayers’ most creative period, and at this point, the vibraphonist had strongly established the identity of his signature R&B-influenced jazz-funk sound. Perhaps a bit confused as to which direction the music should go, but still with some wonderful moments, as always! The album contains funky cuts like “Fire Up The Funk” and “Our Time Is Coming” really nice funky stuff but also mellow cuts still have that wonderful spacey quality that Roy virtually pioneered in soul and songs like “Ooh”, “Let’s stay together”, “Feeling good” and “Stairway to the stars” are very strong smooth jazz tracks. Henry was still attending the Manual Arts High School when he played with his first professional band the Roy Ayers Latin Jazz Quintet. In the company largely of a cast including pianist Jack Wilson and Curtis Amy on tenor and soprano saxophones, Ayers works his way through the kind of programme of standards and. Over the years Roy Ayers composed and produced music in collaborations with many major artists, and is currently one of the most sampled artists in the music industry. Roy Ayers had a career before he had hit records, and this reissue proves the vibraphonist was both well-versed and eloquent within the realm of post-bop jazz.
